During my childhood, I went to a Catholic church where I was fortunate to be exposed to music at a young age. I joined the children’s choir in grade 3, and since then I have realized and developed a deep passion for music. However, my journey to pursue this passion has never been easy. I chose the English major for my undergraduate study because that was what my parents advised me to do. But my passion for music was so strong that, a year later, I decided to take a four-year program for a diploma in music. Studying double majors at the same was a real struggle, but I managed to complete both of them and graduated.
Currently I’m working as a cost analyst at a Korean company producing Nike shoes. In my role, I deal with a big amount of data every single day. It’s a challenging job, but it has trained me to become more meticulous, analytical, and logical. In addition, working in such an international and multicultural environment, my English and communication skills have greatly been enhanced.
However, again, my office work has nothing to do with music. To pursue my passion for music, I have had to spend my evenings and weekends teaching keyboard courses from beginning to intermediate levels. The teaching job has helped me to improve my creativity, patience, and empathy. Also, I am playing organ for my parish’s choirs.
Since 2014, I have been a member of the Con Chien Lac – The Lost Sheep group and then its second generation – Live Like Trees. I have worked on a variety of projects with my team. Two months ago, I felt honored to take the role of a course administrator for English language programs at LLT. Although I did not have much free time then, I still applied for that position because of several reasons. First, after such a long time working with Chi Bi, I have admired her ideology and visions and found her philosophy on charity resonates very well with mine. Second, her capabilities to lead a youth group have given me confidence to join her and the team. Above all, the friendship between her and me over the past 9-10 years is the main reason for me to support Chi Bi whenever she needs help.
Working in this role of a program administrator has been a precious opportunity for me. I have been able to transfer my skills from my work and teaching to this administrative role at LLT. In addition, with Chi Bi’s support, I have learnt new skills including problem-solving and organizational skills. I have also learnt how to face and deal with challenges. One of the biggest challenges is to remember and sort out plenty of details and tasks to ensure accuracy and meet multiple deadlines. Despite those challenges, I really enjoy this role in which I have become more extroverted and sociable thanks to heaps of interaction with students of different ages, teachers, and volunteers.
